Keys to solid vocal performance

There are a lot of “secret sauce” methods out there for improving vocal performance. Breathing exercises, vocal exercises, certain things to eat/drink and others not to eat/drink, etc.

Honestly the single biggest thing I can recommend is to treat singing as an aerobic activity. If you want to be a better vocalist but aren’t in good cardiovascular shape; get off your ass and work out.

Regular exercise can help improve your cardiovascular fitness overall. Vigorous exercise the day before a performance or moderate exercise the day of the performance can be a great way to open up your lungs so you’ll be better prepared to hold out those long notes longer and hit your high notes more strongly.
